there be artworks
you know what? Ubuntu is a great system and stuff but its scanning utility simply sucks. And if someone tells you that’s just “difficult to use” is lying. I know how to bypass horrible interfaces, I mean, I was using The GIMP five years ago when it had the most confusing interface ever conceived, and even like this I often ended up fine-tuning everything until I had a perfect preview only to get an ugly mess of an actual scan. In the end I gave up with setting everything up before scanning and had to retouch everything afterwards, but doesn’t it defeat the point of having, you know, scanning options?
The funniest part is that this utility’s name is XSANE. yeah. talk about my mental sanity.
Now with the artwork:
Let’s start from the artworks I made for this exam whose results I’ll get to know on Monday. This was supposed to be a background for some cartoon. No, it’s not really going to be used in a cartoon, but still :B
A cartoon-esque Death Valley. This was made on black paper, so you know why the colors look that way.
Another idea for the Death Valley. There would be more sketches but they’re not really worth looking at, so.
The final work for the exam was about choosing a song and making some evocative backgrounds inspired by the lyrics. My song of choice was Pearls of Light by Within Temptation. Tons of better songs out there, but you know how it goes, its lyrics were short enough to have each artwork match some part of the song and they setted both the scene and the mood, so.
This one matches the first part of the song: “After the cold, the darkness in the heart of the forest”.

quite my favorite. the teacher liked this one better than the others too. Her only critique was that the huge difference between the lighter drawings and the darker ones could make people for which I could be working in the future object that they don’t look like works from the same person. Well, here I was experimenting a bit with techniques, but she’s right. I need to work more on consistency.

I know, it is terrible, but it is the truth. Some things can never be unseen, so just tread carefully on the web…
The cartoon room reminds me a little of Arnold’s room from the cartoon “Hey Arnold!” Your room is different, but Arnold’s room was similarly bright, and had high-tech furniture in it. I could totally visualize the room you drew on a TV show.
The dark paper works well with the Death Valley picture, making it look late in the day and shadowy. I also really like the dark pictures for Pearls of Light. The bright pictures are good too, but the dark pictures seem especially full of feeling (if that makes any sense). If there was more of a transition from dark to light, these images would make a good slideshow for the song.

Denise: Another friend of mine told me the exact same thing after I told him of Kirby, and as a result I ended up discovering Calvin and Hobbes porn. Now, why should someone look up for something that nasty is beyond my knowledge, and sincerely I don’t want to know, but still :O
The room was supposed to be designed for a cartoon character chosen by the teacher. Mine was a boy with this heavy lineart, a whistle hanging from his neck and this cool attitude, so I thought to give his room too the same style. Meaning that all the hi-tech stuff is for the coolness. P:

ok l’avevo promesso che sarei venuto e quindi preferisco non tardare più di tanto…sono letteralmente a pezzi (mal di testa e sonno arretrato) e non riesco neanche a concepire l’idea di commentare in inglese, per una volta XD il primo disegno per me è qualcosa di stupendo *-* cioè, lo apri e ti sembra di stare davvero in quella stanza, è un’ottima realizzazione! anche il secondo mi piace molto, sbaglio o è uscito un po’ male lo scan (vedo righe verticali strane O_o) comunque mi piace molto il cielo e il teschio °ç° un consiglio per il terzo: magari raffigurare qualche osso spezzato qua e là? li vedo troppo perfetti per trovarsi in quel luogo, quei teschi e quelle ossa… Come sai adoro il verde e quindi il 4° disegno non può che essere *_* per me, ha un “non so che” di affascinante poi °ç° l’altro, con le perle di luce, è un po’ troppo chiaro per i miei gusti e per come avrei realizzato quella frase, comunque mi piace come sono stati usati i colori. E quello successivo… ;____; -> *___* cioè, hai usato un azzurro stupendo per rendere una scena altrettanto stupenda! Il flareon dopo ha qualcosa di delcatty XD degli altri, mi piace molto la tecnica e la colorazione del penultimo (non posso commentare molto non conoscendo..) e infine del personaggio di Monochromatic stains…non è un po’ troppo grande per avere solo 3 minuti di vita? ._. per giusto dev’essere un embrione… scherzo XD ha un suo fascino in effetti o.o (°.°) . per quanto riguarda il post successivo, NON L’HO CAPITO e non mi andava di scriverlo in un altro commento, ecco XD ma sarà che sono proprio rintontito in questi giorni, passato il 6 febbraio dovrei tornare NORMALE, chissà che significa normale poi. il terzo essendo solo un bozzetto non aveva niente di quelle cose perché erano considerate come cosine da aggiungere in caso fosse quello definitivo, poi così non è stato e così l’ho accantonato :B
in realtà quello con le perle non era COSÌ chiaro ma rrrr xsane ti odio, e due
quel flareon sarà il risultato di accoppiamenti curiosi :O
il penultimo è stato colorato con le stesse matite gessetto di cui la death valley e i due di pearls of light sul nero. :B sono fantastiche, le sto usando tantissimo recentemente, vedrai nei prossimi posts. purtroppo quello di kirby e meta knight in particolare ha i colori appena falsati :(
