Follow-up (plus not safe for grandma artworks)

( March 20, 2009 - 3:15 pm, filed under artworks, blind dreaming, tagged as , , )

As for the artfolio’s name, what do you think about Advanced Blanket? It comes from an engrish pic I’ve seen recently and it relates incredibly well to the website theme. After all, art is a sort of safety blanket for me, a lot like Linus’ one, only more advanced. Way to reference one of my favorite comics via a quirky-sounding name! :O Also, blankets are for beds, beds are for sleeping, sleeping is for dreaming, so maybe I’d need an advanced blanket to get some blind dreaming?

As for the Hall of Changes, I’ll try something with the Brinstar patterns I’ve been talking about in the previous post’s comments. Then I’ll make a picture of how it would look and I’ll post it here, and according to your opinions I’ll decide whether to upgrade the layout or not. Thank you for your suggestions. :)

Now, to that batch of PG13 drawings. All of them have sexual themes, nudity or both. If the idea of seeing young men hugging each other while naked makes you weep, then you’re either too young or too right-wing to be reading this weblog to begin with and shouldn’t be here at all. Not like I actually know any of the latter, but as a child I was told that if I misbehaved I would have received the visit of either the black wolf or the right-wing nut, and I’d like to stay safe.

These pictures are not safe for grandma. If your grandma is looking, please cover her eyes

you’re given the power to choose

hay guys, I’d like to ask you a few questions about a few issues I can’t make up my mind on.

I’ll be working on the new artfolio very soon. Should I call it Blind Dreaming or something else? Mind that blind-dreaming.net’s index page is going to stay as a gateway leading to this blog, the collective and the artfolio and that I already have a list of possible names in case I choose to not name the artfolio after the domain, so tell me.

Also, does the layout of the Hall of Changes look unfinished? Do you think it looks good as it is now or that something is missing? To me, it looks like it should use a background in the upper left corner to give it some more depth, but again, I don’t know if you actually like the simple look. Don’t take me wrong - I am very pleased with the colors and the overall organization, plus the layout uses an artwork I am very satisfied with. It’s that I don’t know if I should have stopped there. Please be honest while replying to this post, I need your feedback.

In the meanwhile, have an artwork:

volkner-flint-06.jpg

I’ll be posting some PG-13 Volkner and Flint artworks later, under a cut. They’re not incredibly explicit and shouldn’t offend the sensibility of anyone I know, but I don’t want to slam them into your face either, so.

I command you to disregard authority!

I’ve got to study a boring book for a boring exam, and guess what happens? Inspiration strikes me. Thank you so much, I was really needing another reason to hate this exam. I guess inspiration is much like a hard-on, coming at all the wrong times…don’t ask me how I know. Anyway, I can’t study for twelve hours straight without taking a break, so this is it. Artwork post.

Before that, have a look at Story Experiment, a project of my cousin. I’ve linked to him in the footer. Read it. Or else. >(

falkner-01.jpgwill-01.jpg

I’m planning to do four artworks featuring each and every notable Pokémon character, broken down by generation. And because characters in second generation have less fan work than the others, I’m starting with them. These are some references as to what they look like according to Sugimori and, where applicable, the anime; from these, I’ll be developing my own take on them. I’ve already drawn references for all of the character in generation two, but you don’t expect me to scan them all, right? RIGHT?

rosy-aged-10.jpgrosy-aged-12.jpgrosy-aged-14.jpgrosy-aged-19.jpg

Drawing Kris put me in a sort of nostalgic mood, so I went back and drew all my Pokémon characters. From left to right, me aged 10, 12, 14 and 17-18-19-whatever. Man, the third one had a weird outfit. The last one is actually not much of a character than a self-portrait, as these are clothes I actually own.
also, the second one reminds me of how embarassing was having the body of a child and the boobs of a porn actress, lol (later I found a way to hide them but still lol, that must have been real weird)

flint-01.jpg

hello thar, shoddily-drawn Flint

volkner-flint-05.jpg

I’m going to hell for this
I must admit that Flint looks real nice as a girl. maybe my teacher was right, after all.

volkner-04.jpg

The golden rules of being a Volkner:

  1. Always act like you’re cooler than everyone else!
  2. Overdramatize on everything!
  3. Be vocal on what bugs you! Never stop complaining!
  4. Treat your very special friend who’d cut off his legs for you like he’s worthless!
  5. ???
  6. Profit!

This is it, I’m going back to study. rrrrrr

Not really useful information: I’ve applied for the Super Metroid fanlisting! we’ll see what happens. I’m not sending the application for Volkner and Flint because I’d like to wait for the US version of Pokémon Platinum to come out, you know, for the shrine side and such, and because I still don’t know how to name the site. I’m thinking about something with “spark” in it because sparks can be both from electric discharges and fire and spark is also a term for a lover (lol), but I don’t know, I need another word. Do you have a better idea than “Banana Spark”? :(

YOU GUYS
HOW DO YOU DARE PASS ON VIDEOGAME MUSIC
I HATE YOU ALL, I’M GONNA CUT MYSELF NOW
hahahah no just kidding
you’re the only ones losing from this anyway >)

In any case, here goes the artwork post! I gave an exam today so I’ve got some free time tonight, let’s make the best out of it, but be wary: this is going to be wacky and weird, please fasten your belts, thank you.

sprouting-head-01.jpg

TOLD YOU
I have no idea what this is about but I sort of like it

flint-anatomy-01.jpg

Here the idea was to draw Flint sitting on some doorsteps taking a cup of coffee from Volkner, and ended up studying how could I make it work. It should be able to stretch that way.

samus-15.jpg

having at least one Samus drawing in each artwork post is a must

These are all part of an assignment that was due last week. Basically the teacher gave us these sketches from which we had to develop some characters. As you can see, I had quite some fun.
also the fourth one is not really a character and the situation is not really imaginary. I’d say it’s definitely not imaginary. dammit

jungle-01.jpg

This painting was part of today (well, as I write it’s already yesterday)’s exam. I had some paper birds I could put on the top of this so they would appear in the jungle and such, but as of now those birds are…well…let’s say they had a hard day and they’re needing some sleep. read also: I’M NOT PUTTING THEM ON AGAIN, SORRY
also, sorry for the quality :( couldn’t get a better shot

volkner-flint-04.jpg

the best part of that exam was when the teacher referred to Flint as a she. tee hee tee hee

volkner-flint-02.jpg

why Volkner I didn’t know you were such a sissy

volkner-03.jpg

I AM SO PROUD OF THIS
(also drawing mancrotches is fun)

flint-01.gifvolkner-01.gif
most of you already saw these but I’m reposting them anyway. I wasn’t joking when I said I wanted to build a fanlisting for those two, it’s what I’m doing, and I want to have a sprite adoption center in it. Now you know what these are for.
Also, I’m working on more Volkner and Flint artworks. I’ve got sketches for five of them right now, just so you know.

sneezing-chair-01.jpg

Let’s end this post with the infamous sneezing chair. Today I had a meeting with an illustrator and while I was there I heard a sneeze coming from a place where no one was sitting. I therefore resolved it must have been the chair. (gotta change drug dealer lol)

ok so this was one huge art post. am I forgetting something? probably.
AH YES

sheer awesomeness in midi format

( March 1, 2009 - 12:35 am, filed under videogames, tagged as )

Megaman II has got some of the best soundtracks from the NES era. Today I checked VGmusic for some good midi remixes of its greatest tracks, and found much more than what I was looking for. Search this page for “Mega Man II” and follow me from there, as I don’t want to direct link the midis but I don’t want to host them here without asking the sequencers first.

Airman’s Stage (5) by Starbug - upbeat, feels like the original track, and generally works
Airman’s Stage (9) by Sword-Bolt - slower and featuring a cool electric piano
Airman’s Stage (XG) by Blue Fox Verse & MaliceX - an interesting take with guitar riffs and a BASS

Boss by Trevor Kuprel - it has echoes

Bubbleman’s Stage (5) by Seth Wilson - listen to it from the beginning to the end. this is just beautiful. beautiful I say
Bubbleman’s Stage (9) by Sword-Bolt - it’s funny how it feels like you’ve been listening to this since forever
Bubbleman’s Stage (2) by Tom Kim - these tiny distorted sounds

Heatman’s Stage (2) by Trevor Kuprel - just like the original

Flashman’s Stage by Trevor Kuprel - BADASS

Opening & Title (Rock Remix) by FailureChild - THE WAY IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN
Opening & Title (Arranged) by Steven C. King - it’s good but it’s missing the peeeeeow
Opening & Title (2) by Trevor Kuprel - on the other hand, this has got the best peeeeow ever

Dr. Wily Stage 1 (11) by Sword-Bolt - just…gorgeous. there are no words for this.

After listening to these I looked for some other tracks:

Ninja Gaiden - Act 2 Stage 1 by Deuce - Is there somebody other than me out there who thinks that Ninja Gaiden had a great soundtrack?
Ninja Gaiden - Act 2 Stage 2 by Deuce - same as before

(page change)
Castlevania - Stage 1 - “Vampire Killer” by Jorge D. Fuentes - shut up I love Vampire Killer
Castlevania - Stage 1 - “Vampire Killer” (Arranged) (3) by Esposito - weird piano for the win

(another page change)
Bubsy the Bobcat - Title Screen and Bonus Stage (sequencer unknown) - someone please play this one with real instruments
Bubsy the Bobcat - Cheese Wheels of Doom (sequencer unknown) - du du du du du du du du
Bubsy the Bobcat - Invincible Bubsy (sequencer unknown) - RUN BUBSY, RUN TILL YOU CAN

Donkey Kong Country - Aquatic Ambiance (Orchestrated) by Dave Phaneuf - Let’s close this post with one of the most beautiful video game remixes I’ve ever listened to. I want to get asleep listening to this.
